Matteo Cattaneo and his team have been industrious, to say the least, since the opening of their flagship restaurant Buona Forchetta in 2013. Their first offshoot, Officine Buona Forchetta, opened in 2017, which was just the beginning. Now the restaurant group, called the Bunoa Forchetta Family, has several Buona Forchetta variations throughout San Diego, as well as a non-profit breakfast restaurant called Matteo, and a food stand in Petco Park.

And Cattaneo once again has his sights set on Encinitas, where he will reportedly open a modern diner at 608 South Coast Highway 101, in the space formerly occupied by Angelo’s Burgers. This will the group’s second Encinitas location, following the opening of Buona Forchetta Encinitas, “which blends award winning Neapolitan-style pies and Northern Italian upscale entrees in a family-friendly, approachable space.”

According to Sandiegoville, the details for the new diner are still in development, including the name of the restaurant; Cattaneo was unavailable for comment at the time of this publication.

In any event, your brunch options on South Coast Highway are soon to get even better.
