The company’s newest location will move into The Forum Carlsbad shopping center, according to a recent permit filing. A representative from the company tells What Now San Diego that the new location is expected to open in mid-to-late Summer 2024. Besides McConnell’s Ice Cream, this will be the newest hot spot for a sweet treat, offering homestyle desserts, such as cupcakes and cakes, all from scratch. This will be the third SusieCakes in San Diego, following Carlsbad’s La Costa Square and Del Mar.

The spot SusieCakes is moving into has seen a lot of turnover in recent years, starting with the closure of Which Which before the pandemic. After that, Wild Thyme Restaurant Group took over the space to open Jay Bird’s Nashville Hot Chicken and then eventually turned it into a new concept called Kaiseki Sushi. The restaurant lasted only a few months, and the concept closed at the end of last year, making room for SusieCakes. Some limited-time flavors currently on the menu include mocha, peanut butter, strawberry, and mint cupcakes. The eatery will also offer local delivery when it opens.

“You most likely recall a cake as part of your life’s milestone celebrations,” founder Susan Sarich says on the company’s website. “Cake has the unique ability to connect us with the people and events of our past. However, cake should not be reserved only for these special occasions. A delicious slice of cake can immediately bring a bit of celebration to an ordinary day. I hope you enjoy SusieCakes on your special occasions, as well as all the days in between.”
