One of the top five reasons to visit San Diego is about to get even bigger. Voted ‘the best gelato’ in San Diego by San Diego Magazine and Modern Luxury, this sweet shop has become a major attraction since its inception in 2018. And now An’s Dry Cleaning is expanding.

If you haven’t sampled some of this famous gelato before, and you’re a bit confused about how a dry cleaning shop can win so many awards for frozen desserts, allow An’s website to enlighten you. An’s opened its first location on 3017 Adams Ave. in North Park in a building constructed in 1934. “We immediately fell in love with the location, the community, and the people. But changing the name of an old establishment…didn’t feel right. So we decided to keep it.” And the sensation was born.

Now that sensation is spreading. Owner of An’s, Kris Warren, recently signed a lease in Del Mar Plaza. The gelato shop will take over the 1,400 square foot retail space on the first floor this June.

An’s makes small batch gelato using San Diego ingredients. The gelato and sorbet menu rotates, and according to their website, “we start every visit off by offering to take guests through a complete flavor tour of all our ‘fabrics’ on the menu.” Due to covid, that tour is virtual right now, but that just means you can get the scoop online. This week’s menu offers flavors like soothing ‘Blue Chamomile,’ ‘Olive Oil Rosemary,’ and ‘Raspberry Rosewater,’ among others.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t think of a better way to beat the heat.
