Jeffrey and Ali Nicoletta, and Bruce Long opened the restaurant at 888 Prospect Street in 2009 but will be closing on October 29th due to leasing issues, according to an announcement recently made on the company’s Instagram. Bubba’s Smokehouse BBQ’s owners are looking for a new space to relocate the restaurant to a space with a substantial hood system. This relocation has no exact timing, but the announcement says it will happen “very shortly.”

“We are so sad to inform all of our wonderful patrons that after almost 15 years of being a BBQ staple in La Jolla, Bubbas Smokehouse BBQ will be closing its doors on October 29th,” according to the announcement. “After years of obstacles and rising costs, we have decided to not renew our lease and relocate very shortly. We have been honored to get to know so many of our customers and have created some great friendships along the way. We’ve seen kids grow up and go off to college, families be made, first dates and anniversaries, and lost some wonderful people along the way. This was our home, and we were happy to have welcomed you into it.”

When the restaurant finds its new home, customers can expect to find slow-smoked meats packed with flavor, crafted with love, and made fresh every day. Bubba’s Smokehouse BBQ offers various American barbecue fare, including ribs, burgers, sandwiches, BBQ chicken, platters, and more. On top of a handful of starters, such as fried okra and hush puppies, the restaurant also offers three delicious dessert options, including sweet potato pie, bourbon pecan pie, and bread pudding.

“Jeff and I started this business when we were only 27 & 29 years old. We were kids with a chip on our shoulder,” the announcement continues. “We literally learned along the way (to say the least.) Much of our success over those years stems from the people we have met and the relationships we have grown. Some could say that it was due to our hospitality, but Jeff and I know that without the support from all of Y’ALL, these great years we have had here would NOT be the same! We ask that you keep us in your hearts and minds (and taste buds )… and look out for updates because the new Bubbas Smokehouse BBQ will be coming soon!”
