The company recently opened in the former home of a Union Bank in Imperial Beach, offering free food for a year to 20 special customers. Now, the Louisiana-based company is focusing on its next location in Poway. The Poway City Council unanimously approved plans for a 3,144-square-foot drive-through restaurant on October 3, according to Union-Tribune. Raising Cane’s is expected to start construction on the restaurant in May 2024 and be completed in late 2024 or early 2025.

Several councilmembers thought this new restaurant would be a great idea for the community, with councilmember Caylin Frank telling publications they love this plan and turning a blighted property into something beautiful. City Staff recommended exterior updates to match Poway’s “city in the country” character, such as replacing the faux window glazing with wood or brick treatments and the roof screening solid.

This is just the beginning of the fast-casual chicken chain, which opened in Baton Rouge in 1996. The company experienced phenomenal growth this year, seeing between 750 and 800 new locations throughout the country by the end of the year. California outlets have been on a growth trajectory, with eight Raising Cane’s restaurants opened in the state so far this year and another three expected to open before the end of the year, including in El Cajon and Chula Vista, Hannah Henderson, Raising Cane’s senior manager of public relations, tells the Union-Tribune.

“We’re growing fast, and the reason for that is we do one thing, and we do it very well,” Henderson told the Union-Tribune. “We spend our time focusing on serving hot, fresh chicken. We don’t roll out product launches or expand menus. It’s a simple concept, but it’s worked well for us.”
