The company’s first storefront is set to move into the former home of La Perla Cocina Mexicana, also known as La Perla Street Tacos, first reported by SanDiegoVille. La Perla closed down at the beginning of this year after serving the area for over a decade. Owner Nico Gibbons, a native San Diegan and lifelong fisherman, has operated Nico’s Fish Market as a roving pop-up for almost two years but will soon upgrade to a much larger space, opening sometime in Summer 2024.

“After much time fishing and popping up all over San Diego, we have finally found a place we call home: Pacific Beach,” according to the company’s website. “From our team of fishermen and our team at Nico’s, we sincerely appreciate your support. We are stoked to welcome you at our brick-and-mortar this summer, only a half block from the ocean.”

When the new brick-and-mortar opens in a few months, customers can expect a fish case filled with fresh seafood with fish cut to order to ensure quality and freshness. The space will also have a full restaurant component featuring a frequently changing menu. Staples on the menu include poke bowls, poke n’ chips, oysters, fish burritos, seafood plates, and sandwiches, all made with fresh local catch. Before opening Nico’s Fish Market, Gibbons grew his knowledge and passion for seafood while working at La Jolla’s El Pescador Fish Market.
