The company’s first San Diego site is expected to move into the former home of Shentan BBQ near the Sunrise Towne Center in the Convoy District, according to Eater San Diego. Fish With You will sit in the same shopping center as Tsuruhashi Japanese BBQ and Izakaya Sakura, making this a perfect location for the company’s area debut. Franchisee Vicky Hua, who also owns San Diego’s only YinTang Spicy Hot Pot and the recently opened Zhengxin Chicken Steak, plans to open Fish With You in October 2024.

While the company has over 2,000 locations in China, Canada, and Dubai, it is only known as Fish With You in the United States, other than an outpost in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens. The company is working on opening more locations in the Bay Area and Los Angeles through franchising. There are a handful of variations of this restaurant, known as Wei’s Fish, with one location in Cupertino. The company is sticking with the name Fish With You and plans to name all future locations as such moving forward.

Speaking of future locations, Hua says she hopes to open a second location in the San Diego area if all goes well with the first site. When it opens, customers can expect variations on “suan cai yu,” a white fish and fermented cabbage stew. The restaurant’s most popular item on its menu is the bestselling Laotian boiled fish with pickled cabbage and chili. Fish With You will offer free Wuchang rice imported from China and free side dishes, such as tofu, needle mushrooms, and green leaf lettuce. To drink, there will be various teas, local beers, soju, and more.
