The new wine bar is set to debut within The Headquarters at Seaport District, according to a recent liquor license application. The owners tell What Now San Diego via email that Dorothy’s Wine Bar is expected to open by the end of the month, but they couldn’t provide an exact opening date. This will be an excellent spot for anyone hoping to grab a glass of wine before or after dinner at any of the elegant restaurants found in the area, including Eddie V’s, Galpao Gaucho Brazilian Steakhouse, Puesto, and more.

“At Dorothy’s Wine Bar, we offer a fresh focus on small, independent, new-world winemakers, without the stuffy sommeliers, pretentious bartenders, or chilly welcome,” the owners tell What Now San Diego in an email. “Like visiting your best friend’s place, at Dorothy’s, you can meet your friends, try new wine, enjoy some music, and simply relax in our beautiful patio- or quirky indoor space. Located at the Headquarters in Seaport District, Dorothy’s brings a cozy neighborhood feel to the heart of vibrant downtown San Diego. With a fun, flirty approach to wine in your home-away-from-home, Dorothy’s Wine Bar is a bar for everyone because we believe that wine is for everyone.”

Dorothy’s Wine Bar will move into the former home of The Grape Underground, according to an announcement made on social media from the short-lived wine bar. In the announcement, The Grape Underground Wine Bar & Bottle Shop owners said the bar is changing owners and names, turning into Dorothy’s Wine Bar. The previous owner’s last day was Sunday, August 11, and left patrons with a heartfelt last message.

“I am extremely grateful for the time I was able to serve all of the fascinating and beautiful people who visited and enjoyed The Grape Underground Wine Bar,” according to the announcement. “The Grape Underground will still do private wine and food events upon request and be active in the wine community.”
