The company’s sixth location appears to be moving into the former home of Nostalgia Coffee Roasters in the Torrey Plaza by Breakthrough, according to a recent submission to the San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality. While it’s unclear when this location is expected to open, this will be an excellent spot for the company, considering it will have panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, Torrey Pines, and Del Mar, plus exposure to over 275,000 cars a day.

This is a massive accomplishment for the company, which was started in 2009 by two best friends, Beverly Magtanong and Jelynn Malone, who were volunteering to build homes for the poor in the Philippines, according to the company’s website. They realized that the best way to help build sustainable livelihoods for them was to help Philippines farmers get paid fairly for their crops—which happened to be coffee. Eventually, the company added Chef Mike Arquines and Sam Magtanong to the team, and their coffee would later earn them the most respected and coveted award, “Roaster of the Year,” a title given to only a handful of the best coffee roasters in the world.

“The best specialty coffee collection, carefully curated from around the globe,” according to the company’s website. “Mostra Coffee was awarded 2020 Roaster of the Year, 2022 U.S. Roaster Champion, and is the proud roaster of the first Direct Trade Philippine coffee to ever make Coffee Review’s Top 30 Coffees of the Year! We source, roast, serve, and are committed to bringing you coffee that is best in class, sustainable, and grown by some of the top producers in the world from both known and unknown regions.”

While the opening date of this new location has yet to be announced, Mostra Coffee has locations in Carmel Mountain Ranch at 12045 Carmel Mountain Road Unit 302; 4S Ranch at 10550 Craftsman Way Ste. 187; Bankers Hill at 2001 Fourth Avenue; and Hillcrest at 3921 Normal St. A fifth location for Mira Mesa was announced last year and is expected to open sometime this year. When the new Torrey Pines location opens, customers can expect various coffee options and a handful of snacks from the bakery.
