The new shop, called Caves Wines Bar & Shop, will open in a mixed-use development near the Leucadia Oaks Park, according to a recent liquor license. Owner Gavin Barnes tells What Now San Diego that he is waiting for permits to open the new wine bar and will likely open its door sometime next year. Before this happens, the owners will continue to deliver to residents in Encinitas, CA, and surrounding areas. Anyone outside of San Diego can pay a flat shipping rate of $15 on any case of 1-12 bottles of wine.

“We [Gavin and his wife, Amy] operate Caves entirely online as a place to share the amazing wines of the world that we have come to know and love,” according to the company’s website. “We hand-select everything, representing winemakers who create meticulous, hand-crafted wines. The goal is to be a place to find wines you may have never heard of while also seeing a few world-class brands sold at fair prices. We’re a two-person show, and sometimes we can’t compete with the big guys, but we will help you find exactly what you’re looking for and, if you live in San Diego, drive the wine to your doorstep.”

When the new brick-and-mortar opens next year, customers can expect a variety of wine and other related items available for purchase. Considering the company is calling this a wine bar, it is likely customers will be able to get a taste of the products before they purchase them. Those interested in taking things up a notch with their wine knowledge are encouraged to join Cave Wine Shops’ wine club, where each person receives two unique bottles of wine focused on a new wine region and a detailed fact sheet to educate you on the wine and the region.
