Ready for some good news for the seafood foodies of La Jolla? Co-owners Kim Locker and Chad & Deboarah Taggart are bringing Lobster West, their New England seafood restaurant, to the heart of La Jolla. The eatery, which serves up fresh Maine lobster rolls and other East Coast seafood bites, sources lobster directly from the gulf of Maine. Not only that, but the lobster meat is 100% certified and sustainable.

As a Maine native, I have to let you know there is one true test of an authentic Maine lobster roll, and it’s all about the bun. I’m pleased to confirm that Lobster West does in fact serve lobster rolls with split-top buns (which, by the way, are freshly baked). The seafood joint also serves up another important Maine delicacy: the whoopie pie. If you’ve never had a whoopie pie, I suggest you head over to one of Lobster West’s existing brick-and-mortars, in Encinitas or Coronado, to get the full experience.

Okay, it isn’t all about Maine. The eatery also serves up Maryland’s Crab Soup, New England Clam Chowder, and of course their signature rolls which come with lobster, shrimp, and crab (or any combination thereof). I also approve of their punny and topical roll names, like ‘No R’Easter and ‘Maine Event.’

According to SanDiegoVille, Lobster West will open their latest brick-and-mortar in La Jolla’s International Shops plaza. You should look for the eatery to open sometime in late summer or early fall; you’ll want to follow their social media to be sure.
