“We’re really looking forward to getting the hot dog trailer open,” Slater tells What Now San Diego. “We’ve been hearing a lot of people walking by, asking about it. And so far it’s been a great reception with everybody in the community.”
When it opens, the hot dog eatery won’t offer basic dogs topped with mustard, ketchup and relish. Scotty Dogs will serve up all beef hot dogs made with bits of cooked bacon inside a natural casing, served loaded with various toppings. The online menu boasts hot dogs with unique names like Barrio Bulldog and Sweet Caroline, topped with items ranging from guacamole and jalapeño chips, to pulled pork and slaw.
Slater is a hot dog eating champion and local restaurateur behind Slater’s 50/50, the salad and bowl restaurant Head Lettuce, Early Bird Breakfast Burrito, and Spitfire Tacos, as well as the Mission + Garnet Food Hall itself.
Scotty Dogs will join five other eateries at the food hall, including Early Bird Breakfast Burritos, Head Lettuce, Checkered Churros, Harvey Carver’s, and Spitfire Tacos, with walk-up windows and counter service options open nearly 24 hours a day.
