Oscar Anciras has been perfecting the art of taquitos for decades. As the son of the Delimex founder, the restaurateur turned to the cuisine he knew best when launching his fast-casual joint, El Tianguis.

The differences between a frozen Delimex taquito and an El Tianguis taquito are vast. Anciras told What Now San Diego that it comes down to the supply chain:

“In our restaurant, I don’t have to deal with different companies every step of the way,” Anciras said. “We can add as many fillings and ingredients as we’d like. Our product can be freshly made, I don’t have to keep weeks and weeks of inventory.”

The result, according to the El Tianguis website, is “the best taquitos you’ve ever had.” El Tianguis has already established two successful locations in North Park and Chula Vista, with two more locations coming this year to National City and Mission Valley.

Anciras projects that the National City location at Plaza Bonita will open by April, whereas the Mission Valley joint will debut in August or September. The latter location will be part of the new Purl residential and commercial development, where Anciras hopes to create a comfortable and stylish atmosphere for customers.
