The company, which recently captivated audiences on Hulu’s Only Murders in The Building, signed an agreement last month with Sharian Lott, daughter of Dorothy Smith, the first Black woman elected to office in San Diego, according to a press release. Lott and her family have a deep history in San Diego, as well as the Broadway community, and the franchise owner has spent her lifetime embedded within San Diego’s community. She’s now preparing to bring the “Official Cookie of Broadway” to San Diego.

“To take Schmackary’s across the country less than a year after we started franchising just speaks to how our store can make an impact anywhere,” Schmackary’s Founder, Zach Schmahl, said in a press release. “Sharian’s connection with San Diego adds a unique touch to our journey. The San Diego food scene is one we’re ready to make our mark on.”

Schmackary officially launched franchising in May 2023 with Fransmart, the global leader in growing emerging franchise brands. They have already welcomed three franchisees to their network as they expand across the Northeast, and there are no signs of slowing momentum. Lott, the mother of Broadway star Loren Lott, is now searching for locations around San Diego County to open her first Schmackary’s Cookies. There is no timeline for these openings, but this will be the first time the popular New York City brand makes its way to the West Coast.

“I wanted to be a part of something that makes people happy,” Lott said in a press release. “When I went to Schmackary’s, it reminded me of a neighborhood bakery in the small town where my mom grew up. It was an experience like no other. I’m excited for all the possibilities that Schmackary’s brings to San Diego.”
