The popular locally owned El Tianguis, which specializes in taquitos/rolled tacos, is celebrating the grand opening of its fourth Mexican fast-casual eatery in San Diego County at 7995 Civita Blvd., at Russell Park Way in Mission Valley.   Located just steps away from Civita Park, the casual spot is the first eatery to open in the 230-acre urban village of Civita.  Parking is available in the rear.

Named after the open-air markets found throughout Mexico and Central America, El Tianguis serves a variety of taquitos based on family recipes and personal experimentation, according to owner Oscar Ancira. “The key to our popularity is the very thin, crispy tortilla we make ourselves,” he said in a statement.  “Lots of Mexican restaurants use regular tortillas, which results in a doughy taquito that doesn’t let the filling take center stage.  We also use fresh (not frozen) meats and make all sides and sauces daily.  By specializing in taquitos exclusively, we deliver a far superior product.”

Fillings happen to be gluten-free and include shredded beef in a red sauce; chicken in tomatillo sauce; shredded beef, potato and cheese; mashed potato; and a vegan mixture of lentils and quinoa. There is an optional topping of Mexican crema, cheese, lettuce, guacamole and salsa. Rice and beans are also available.

Ancira opened his first El T in North Park in 2018.  He says he’s excited to open in Civita with its built-in walk-in traffic.  “Civita really is an urban village,” he said.

Location Matters is a San Diego based commercial real estate brokerage focused on retail properties, with a specialized restaurant leasing and sales team. Alexis Dachs from Location Matters represented El Tianguis in this lease transaction.
