Players Sports Bar will reunite with the Kearny Mesa neighborhood as it plans to place its third location in San Diego. A recent filing with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control places Players in the space formerly occupied by Elbow Room.
Owner Michael Pasulka tells What Now San Diego he’s been looking for the right space to bring the bar back since closing an outpost of Players Sports Bar on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard which served the community for 14 years.
“We’ve been semi-actively looking for the last 8 years for the right size and rent to replace our San Diego location,” says Pasulka. Players Sports Bar will soon take over the 5,242-square-foot spot on Kearny Villa Road which has most recently operated as Jolly Joker Tavern.
Pasulka operates the Players Sports Bar in Poway and co-owns another location in San Marcos along with co-owner and operator, Ted Semprini. Pasulka shares that the menu in the new spot will bring the best of what Kearny Mesa loved from the Players grill in the past.
“Between our wings, pizzas, burgers, and chicken tenders, those four items account for about 60% of food sales. Our wings are very popular, and people love our pizza because we make our pizza dough from scratch,” explains Pasulka. Beyond their wings, which come in 18 flavors, Players offers lots of options for shareable starter dishes, craft burgers, sandwiches, salads, wraps, and a mix of gourmet entrees like Pot Roast or the Loco Moco Bowl.
To wash it down, Pasulka plans to add another 20 draft handles to its current 20 handles for its beer enthusiasts. On game day, Players Sports Bar is a no-brainer choice to catch your favorite team. “We have 20 TVs now, we’ll probably add another 10 TVs. There’s no question of where you need to sit to see the game,” says Pasulka.
An opening date for Players Sports Bar in Kearny Mesa will heavily depend on the speed and ease of the permitting and licensing process with the city and ABC. For now, visit the Players Sports Bar Website for more information on each location and follow the Poway location on Facebook.
