Executive chef and founder of Big Oven Pizza, Ralph Kreidly, recently submitted a liquor license application to open a storefront in the current home of Mom & Dom’s Pizza. The roaming pizza business currently offers Neapolitan-style wood-fired pizza, which is a thin-crust pizza made in an 800-degree wood-fired oven, native to Naples, Italy. While it’s a delicate and labor-intensive pizza, Kreidly has seen great success recently.

Before opening this brick-and-mortar, the business owner served San Diego from his food truck in different county areas. Last year, Big Oven Pizza was one of the finalists in Reader Magazine’s Best Pizza in San Diego and came in first place for Best Food Truck from the publication. Now, he’s getting ready to expand the business with a storefront near a busy Balboa Avenue. When it opens, customers can expect delicious pizza made with 00 Italian flour, San Marzano tomatoes, the best cheeses, and dough that is handmade and fermented using wild yeast.

“Our wood-fired pizza business started by making homemade pizzas for family and friends,” according to the company’s website. “This turned into a journey of perfecting pizza, which included visiting Naples, Italy — where some of the best pizzas in the world are made. We saw firsthand how much time and care is made into making Neapolitan pizzas prepared with simple and fresh ingredients. And we knew we had to do the same when crafting our pizza business.”
