Last year, What Now reported on the Los Angeles-based Mexican restaurant chain making its San Diego debut in the heart of Old Town Temecula at 28588 Old Town Front Street, with plans on securing additional leases in the Gaslamp and La Jolla. Now, SanDiegoVille reports the company is opening its second area location in the former home of La Tapatia in Escondido. Kalaveras expects to open this site sometime in early 2024.

Brothers Jose and Francisco Brito founded the company in 2016, and has expanded to nearly two dozen locations throughout Southern California. All restaurants feature colorful interior designs and live music, all inspired by the honored tradition of El Dia de Los Muertos. The menu features a plethora of modern Mexican dishes, plus some twists, such as Mexican-style sushi. To top it off, Kalaveras also offers nearly 100 different varieties of tequila and mezcal.

“When you walk into the doors of any of our locations, you will be immediately immersed in the sounds, sights, and aromas of a celebration,” according to the company’s website. “You will hear everything from new Latin Pop, Reggaeton hits, classic cumbias, regional Mexican hits, and more to get you in the party atmosphere. You will see our walls adorned with the vibrant colors of El Dia de Los Muertos, as well as beautifully garnished cocktails and the smells of mouthwatering dishes passing by.”
