After three years in business in Carlsbad Village, The Strawberry Shack is ready to add its second location. The dessert shop ripe for your TikTok feed will open a second location on North Tremont Street in Oceanside.
Getting its start in 2009 alongside the Carlsbad Flower Fields, The Strawberry Shack opened a walk-up window in Carlsbad Village in the summer of 2020.
Owner Russ Bruhn tells What Now San Diego the new location will be a significant upgrade in space and will offer seating accommodations compared to its small but mighty 200-square-foot spot in Carlsbad.
The added kitchen space will allow the team to expand on their line of newly launched strawberry juices and continue to come up with innovative new desserts.
The Strawberry Shack serves up a wide variety of strawberry-forward sweets like shortcakes, custards, shakes, cheesecake, Strawberry Tiramisu, Strawberry Key Lime Pie, and chocolate-covered strawberries using chocolate imported from Belgium. Bruhn explains it all started with the Strawberry Lavender Sundae, combining fresh strawberries with another of his homemade creations, lavender jelly by Carlsbad Gourmet.
Carlsbad Gourmet is Bruhn’s other business, which specializes in packaged sauces, salad dressings, spreads, and more. The company partners with Stone Brewing to produce their signature bbq sauces, mustards, and packaged Michelada mixes.
Bruhn shares that through the power of social media and positive word of mouth, The Strawberry Shack has become a destination for tourists and locals alike to explore and share their strawberry creations. Oceanside was a natural fit, with close proximity to hotels, new housing structures, and the pier.
