The company’s newest location is currently under construction in the former home of Valvoline Instant Oil Change. There is no exact timeline for this site, but construction crews appear to be moving fast, and signage has recently been put up on the site. While Starbucks still needs to complete construction, inspections, and hiring, this site will open in early Summer 2024, just in time for the company’s new summer menu, which launched this week.

In addition to the dozens of locations throughout San Diego County, Starbucks has two in-store locations at the nearby Vons and Target and a third site on the corner of Balboa and Genesee Avenues, next to the recently opened California Fish Grill. While this will be the fourth location within half a mile of each other, it will be the only one with a drive-thru. Considering Balboa Avenue is one of the busiest streets in San Diego, it will be a very popular site, taking away some of the crowds at the location in the Genesee Plaza at 5555 Balboa Ave.

When the new location opens in a few weeks, customers can expect the company’s new summertime-focused menu featuring a handful of new drinks and snacks. Starting May 7, Starbucks is offering new Summer-Berry Starbucks Refreshers, which feature a layer of new popping raspberry-flavored pearls that add a burst of fruity flavor. Other additions to the summer menu include White Chocolate Macadamia Cold Brew, the new Orange Cream Cake Pop, and the new Pineapple Cloud Cake.

Starbucks has a “no compete” clause in the lease for this location. As a result, the Shaka Coffee booth there was forced to close. Not happy about this.

With three Starbucks’ spread across those two blocks, surely the most important thing we need in the area is a fourth one. /s
