The new restaurant will move into the former home of The Alcove Wine & Beer by the end of the year, according to San Diego Magazine. This is the latest from Will Remsbottom, who opened Scrimshaw Coffee in 2017, Field Trip Coffee Roasters in 2020, and Majorette in 2023. Now, the businessman is preparing to open Somewhere Pizza adjacent to Scrimshaw Coffee. To help fund the project, the owners have launched a crowdfunding campaign where future customers can earn credits for future purchases.

“The reality is remodeling this existing space is going to be expensive, and after a year of Majorette, we’re a bit strapped for cash,” according to the campaign. “We’ve already signed the lease, have plans & permits in the works, but we need more help to get these doors open. Your support will help get the actual remodel started, fund equipment, and allow us to create jobs with an above-average starting wage. It will also provide us some working capital that will allow us to run significant mock services to make sure our crew is trained up and ready to rock, and a healthy initial inventory. The best part? You get 120% back in credits to use at Scrimshaw Coffee or at Somewhere Pizza when it opens, and credits don’t expire.”

Somewhere Pizza is an extension of Hourglass Hospitality and will be the group’s most ambitious project yet. The team is bringing on Sienna Walters of Companion Bread to consult on all things bread and will help the company develop its version of a New York-inspired pizza. In addition to a classic but simple variety of pies and appetizers, Somewhere Pizza’s menu will reflect the incredible produce and ingredients available in San Diego.

“After 7 years of Scrimshaw Coffee, we feel confident we can run another neighborhood spot, properly serve our community, and have a lot of fun doing it,” according to the campaign. “We want to bring Somewhere Pizza to the College Area because frankly, there aren’t many of options here for thoughtful, neighborhood dining. Ultimately, we’re trying to build places that we want to hang out at. We live in this neighborhood, have our two other businesses here, and truly care about our community. This neighborhood has supported us through thick & thin, and we want you to be as much a part of it as you want, by helping us get the doors open. We hope to celebrate over a slice with you in just a few months!”
