“We hope to open the first week of June 2021,” Sandbox Pizza Director of Operations Nathan Colonero said in an email to What Now San Diego.

Sandbox Pizza is owned by Randy Martin, who is also the owner of The Tipsy Crow in Gaslamp.

Moving into the former Pacific Beach Cantina space on Garnet Avenue, Sandbox Pizza will receive a facelift and updates as well as a second bar.

“The capacity is 250 people, which will be close to double what we have at the current Sandbox location on Grand and Cass,” Colonero said.

He expected a menu that includes different pizza-style options as well as appetizers and entrees. Sandbox Pizza will have over 15 beers on draft and a new cocktail menu rolled out in the first weeks of reopening.

“We are very excited that the increase in kitchen size will make it much easier to handle the volume of food orders we could barely keep up with in the past,” Colonero said. “The entertainment side is going to be a huge upgrade with a live music DJ and dancing.”

Sandbox Pizza will be located in the heart of downtown Pacific Beach with an open-air patio seating facing the sidewalk on Garnet Avenue.
