San Diego’s RDM Group of bars and restaurants is showing no signs of slowing down despite having to sell and close other concepts in recent years. The group, founded in 2008 by industry veterans Mike Georgopoulos, Dave Renzella, and Dan Renzella, opened Rustic Root in downtown San Diego in spring 2015, and are now expanding to North County with a second area location early next year, according to SanDiegoVille.

RMD Group is behind some of San Diego’s most well-known establishments, including Huntress Steakhouse, Lumi by Akira Back, and Johnny WAHOO Golf Bar. The company has sold, rebranded, or closed several of its concepts, such as FLUXX Nightclub, F6ix, Sidebar, Don Chido, and Salvucci’s. Now, RMD Group is pushing forward with its other long-standing restaurants. Rustic Root will sit on a busy HWY 101 with plenty of foot traffic from other local businesses.

When the new location opens, customers can expect a variety of “New American” comfort foods, including seafood and pasta options and other delicious entrees and sides. To drink, the restaurant offers a full bar with craft cocktails, local beer, and a curated wine list. The new Solana Beach site will not have a rooftop area like its original location at 535 Fifth Ave.

“Rustic Root showcases our take on New American Comfort food with a California twist,” according to the company’s website. “Classic dishes are rooted in tradition, including regional dishes from around the country. All reimagined with fresh and local ingredients and our Chef’s modern flair. Our Signature drink menus offer our take on timeless classic cocktails as well as Rustic Root originals using creative spirits and the freshest ingredients.”
