The company is working on opening a new location in the former home of a Smog Test Auto Repair north of the Jackson Drive and Fletcher Parkway intersection, according to recent permit filings. A representative from the company tells What Now San Diego that this location will be owned and operated by franchisee Karan Gogri and is expected to open sometime in 2025. The new QDOBA site will sit near the Grossmont Center.

The new La Mesa location is one of five locations Gogri is set to open in San Diego. The franchise owner signed a multi-unit franchise development agreement three years ago to open ten San Jose locations and another five in San Diego. The first location was slated to open in 2021. While the company is based in San Diego, QDOBA only has locations in Mission Valley and the San Diego Airport. The company is planning for rapid expansion, with plans to open 40 new restaurants this year, followed by 60 in 2024 and 80+ annually beginning in 2025.

“QDOBA is an exceptionally well-positioned brand in one of the most attractive restaurant categories,” John Cywinski, CEO of Modern Restaurant Concepts, QDOBA’s parent company, said in a press release. “We possess long-standing momentum, strong unit economics, a compelling operating model, an extraordinarily passionate guest following, and significant untapped geographic potential.”
