Nobibi founder Shirley Shinn shares details about her innovative and experimental treats to What Now San Diego. Inspired by her travels across Asia, Shinn wanted to bring the next-level desserts she tried in China and Taiwan back home to Southern California.

Nobibi offers desserts and beverages for any sweet tooth. From ice cream, boba drinks, pudding, coffee, cotton candy, to combinations of several of these desserts, there’s something for everyone on the menu with unexpected embellishments sure to stand out from other dessert shops or boba tea cafes you’ve tried before.

“We offer non-traditional soft serve ice cream and add a different touch,” explains Shinn. “We include healthier toppings, not just your usual chocolate or candy toppings. We like fresh fruit, freeze-dried fruit, we add brown sugar boba, or the popular Korean-style coffee mousse, a whipped coffee topping that’s like a thick foam and a nice contrast to the sweet ice cream.”

One of their most popular items is the Ninja ice cream which uses active charcoal powder to tint the ice cream a black color, served in a black waffle cone. Shinn assures the charcoal doesn’t affect the flavor but is aesthetically pleasing and offers guests something new and exciting.

“Also our cotton candy is like a beautiful cloud that the children love, and it goes perfectly with ice cream,” shares Shinn. For those looking for beverages, Nobibi serves a variety of flavored sodas, blended milk frappes, fresh fruit teas, milk teas with roasted boba, and boba drinks topped with Dalgona coffee.

The brand has now partnered with Orange County-based OneV Capital Partners in order to carefully place Nobibi locations in strategic locations and with licensees that will uphold Shinn’s standards for the products.

A rep for OneV Capital shares that they plan to open four locations in Southern California this year, including spots in LA and Riverside County. Their goal is to open 20 Nobibi locations in the next three years, with spots earmarked in Costa Mesa, Brea, Fullerton, and more according to their website.

While licensees are being signed across Southern California, the San Diego site will be corporate-owned. OneV Capital is currently negotiating the first San Diego storefront to launch in the Mira Mesa area.

An opening date for Nobibi in San Diego is expected in late 2023. Get to know their menu by visiting the Nobibi website and preview their mouthwatering treats by following their Chino Hills location on Instagram
