Karl Strauss, San Diego’s longest continuously operating post-Prohibition brewing company, has opened the first phase of its 85,000-square-foot beer garden concept Karl Strauss Outpost San Marcos. Also referred to as The Outpost, this marks the brewery’s fifth San Diego County location and the ninth overall in Southern California.

The Outpost, located at 1293 Armorlite Drive at the corner of Las Posas Road just one block north of California State Route 78, is Karl Strauss’ first neighborhood beer garden, where guests can relax in a two-acre outdoor setting.

The Outpost is open Wednesday – Sunday. Hours of operation are 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday – Friday and 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday – Sunday.

The Bar, which is housed in a custom-fabricated cargo container, serves the same beer as Karl’s brewpubs, as well as alternative alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

A few short steps away from The Bar is the first-ever Karl Strauss Food Truck, which offers a selection of street tacos (including vegetarian options) and “Nachitos” (seasoned tortilla chips smothered in jalapeno beer cheese, nacho fixings, and choice of beef barbacoa, pork carnitas, or chicken Tinga), as well as a quesadilla option for kids.

Executive Chef Gunther Emathinger, who has been with the brewery for 26 years, developed the menu with the Karl Strauss team of chefs. The Food Truck serves food from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday – Friday and from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Guests can enjoy food and beer at an Adirondack chair, picnic table, or high-top barrel table – all with umbrellas and tents that provide shade to the casual outdoor space. Fire pits are available for guests to enjoy, and corn hole welcomes families and friends to play and move about the space.

“Karl Strauss is proud to have pioneered the independent craft brewing industry in San Diego and beyond,” said Karl Strauss President Matt Rattner in a statement. “The Outpost reflects this spirit, our San Diego roots, and ambition to grow and frequently redefine ourselves.”

As Karl’s first outdoor concept, The Outpost will continue to evolve as a space for the people of San Diego’s North County and beyond.
