A regular at local farmers markets in Scripps Ranch, Pacific Beach, Mission Valley, and others, Juanbachi typically sells out of food at its weekly appearances.

Owner Cedrick Catipon tells What Now San Diego Juanbachi is a fusion of Hawaiian, Filipino, and Japanese cuisine. “My restaurant is very surprising because you wouldn’t expect to see/taste all these flavors in one spot. It’s a compilation of food that I personally love to eat,” shares Catipon.

“The idea of having my own restaurant business started with me and my friends grilling Filipino street food in the backyard,” explains Catipon. “I dedicated time and effort in creating my recipes and building my menu, and I finally sold my first plate of Juanbachi in October 2022.”

Juanbachi’s flavor-loaded menu includes options like Kalbi, beef short ribs in a Filipino-style bbq marinade, teriyaki salmon with spicy mayo, and garlic butter shrimp.

“If you love flavors of garlic, sweet and savory, bbq, smokey flavors, peppery, umami, and creamy, spicy, then you’ll find a dish made for you on my menu,” Catipon adds.

The menu for the new Grossmont Center spot is sure to include customer-favorite dishes like Chicken bbq and Chicken Teriyaki, which Catipon adds are the first dishes to sell out at any of the farmers market locations. Guests can also expect newly added menu options like stir-fried noodles, and sizzling plates with rice, veggies, and your choice of protein, topped with a mushroom gravy.

Juanbachi at Grossmont Center is projected to open later in July 2023. Stay updated on where to find Juanbachi by following on Instagram. A website with online ordering is currently in the works.
