Franchise owner Jason Bennett is leading Flippin’ Pizza’s expansion into the Piazza Carmel shopping center, where it will open “soon,” according to the company’s website. Bennett is also the franchisee in charge of Flippin’ Pizza’s Encinitas shop.
The company was founded in 2007 by San Diego local Patrick Farley. After Farley bought the Downtown Carlsbad mainstay Knockout Pizza in 2005, he was inspired to develop his own pizza shop concept, as reported by QSR Magazine.
Thus, Flippin’ Pizza was born. Since then, the brand has opened pizza shops worldwide, including in Dubai and Mexico City. The company is now run by Chairman and CEO Herminio Llevat.
As with Knockout, Flippin’ Pizza specializes in New York-style pies, with a simple menu and a fast-casual environment. Top sellers include the Whitestone with mozzarella, ricotta and basil, as well as the Triboro with meatballs. According to a recent liquor license application, the Del Mar pizza shop also plans on serving beer and wine.
Flippin’ Pizza’s newest location in Piazza Carmel will take the place of Papa John’s in Suite 902B. The shopping center is also home to another famously shuttered storefront, Souplantation.
