In the Fall of 2022, Chef Char’s Seafood N Soul went up against 11 other local chefs and mobile kitchens at the Taste for the Space competition hosted by El Cajon’s Parkway Plaza and won.
The coveted grand prize included a restaurant space at the Parkway Plaza Food Court, three months of free rent, and a $20,000 business investment.
Now, according to a recent permit filing with the city, Chef Charlene Plummer is preparing the much-earned space and will bring the mobile eatery and Soul Food catering business to the El Cajon shopping center.
Chef Char’s Seafood N Soul specializes in classic Soul Food dishes like Oxtails, Jerk Chicken, and Fried Chicken, with sides like Collard Greens, Red, Beans & Rice, and more. The seafood portion of the menu is jam-packed with flavorful options like Fried Catfish, Crab Cakes, Seafood Pasta, Crab Egg Rolls, and loaded Crab Boil trays.
