The company is showing no signs of slowing down, recently announcing plans to open a new location in Downtown at 1011 Union Street in a new $400 million, 37-story mixed-use project. Now, CAVA is pending permits to open a new location in Clairemont, at the Balboa Genesee Corner, which features a handful of other businesses, such as Pho Hut Grill and Kamila’s Breakfast and Lunch. The restaurant will open later this year, although an exact timeline is unknown.

CAVA, founded in 2011 by first-generation Greek Americans Ted Xenohristos, Ike Grigoropoulos, and Dimitri Moshovitis from Rockville, Maryland, has identified an up-and-coming area in the Clairemont area. Next to the new CAVA will be a brand-new Aldi grocery store, which is moving into the former home of Rite Aid. Across the street, California Fish Grill is working on opening a new location next to a Starbucks that is being redeveloped.

The Mediterranean restaurant already has 23 locations in California, including three San Diego sites at Mission Valley, One Paseo, and Carmel Mountain Ranch. On top of the new downtown site, CAVA is also working on a new location at the Creekside Marketplace in San Marcos. The fast-casual restaurant is aiming for 1,000 locations nationwide by 2032. CAVA already has 317 locations in the United States.
