Currently in development by GPI Companies, the La Jolla Innovation Center will be of use to UCSD’s Health Sciences division.

Jeff Taylor, President at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, tells What Now San Diego, “We thought it was a great location for us and came at the right time so we jumped on it.”

The 1,518-square-foot space is located at the ground level of the building at the intersection of Villa La Jolla Drive and La Jolla Village Drive. Taylor remarks that the location offers high visibility due to the level of traffic, plus, “It looks pretty promising getting in front of the UCSD Science crowd, and there’s not a lot of opportunities for coffee shop competition in that immediate area.”

Bird Rock Coffee Roasters currently operates 9 coffee shops and one mobile coffee cart called the Baby Bird. Taylor shares that Bird Rock is included in plans to join San Diego International Airport in the coming years but otherwise no additional locations are in the works. In the meantime, Taylor is focused on making smart and steady moves toward growing the business and their current location choices remain successful.

Bird Rock’s plans for the new location are awaiting approval by UCSD and construction should commence in 2-3 months. An opening at the Innovation Center is projected for Q1 2024. Find your nearest Bird Rock Coffee Roasters location by visiting the website and follow on Instagram for updates.
