Owner Erin Harper tells What Now San Diego the second location is the brands’ first launch out of the area of San Marcos but this is likely the start of further growth in North County.

Ascend Coffee Roasters got its start as Old Cal Coffee, as part of the iconic Old California Restaurant Row in San Marcos. With an uncertain future and the pending redevelopment of Old California Restaurant Row by new owners, Ascend Coffee Roasters brought its original brand into the modern age with the intent to differentiate the brand from its original home base which has no official guarantee of a continued future.

Ascend Coffee Roasters has every intention of staying close to the San Marcos community and will continue operating at Restaurant Row for as long as allowed under the new property owners. The Carlsbad location allows a jumpstart to expansion plans currently in the works.

Harper explains that guests can expect the latest outpost of Ascend Coffee Roasters in Carlsbad to bring its beloved brand with the same menu, drinks, and food options to its new community. Harper takes great care to carefully select and import beans from around the world to find the perfect roast profiles. Their cold brew and espresso-based drinks are favorites for local coffee lovers, while the kitchen serves up popular options like breakfast tacos, breakfast burritos grilled to perfection on the panini press, plus acai bowls, artisan toasts, and pastries baked in-house by their specialty baking program.

Ascend Coffee Roasters in Carlsbad is projected to open in October 2023. Stay updated by following Ascend Coffee Roasters on Instagram.
