The Lost Abbey’s co-founder Tomme Arthur opted for full transparency with the public around the difficulties managing partners in the brewing sector have consistently faced since 2020. Since last year, Arthur has shared intentions to decrease the breweries’ footprint in an effort to reduce costs but maintain growth and exciting new offerings.

The Lost Abbey will separate its brands Port Brewing and The Hop Concept and vacate from 155 Mata Way in San Marcos to make way for Pizza Port Brewing. Production of Port Brewing and The Hop Concept beers will remain at the San Marcos site and The Lost Abbey will keep doors open at its various taproom sites around the region.

Pizza Port gains the ability to increase production by about 25,000 barrels and will manage Port Brewing and The Hop Concept brands. In operation since 1992, Pizza Port operates brewpubs in Carlsbad, San Clemente, Ocean Beach, Solana Beach, and most recently opened in Imperial Beach.

Pizza Port Brewing will take over the San Marcos facility in May 2023, with The Lost Abbey closing tasting room operations on May 1st. Read details surrounding the update here
