Idego Coffee Roasters, established in 2013, began as a café in Blacksburg, Virginia. Their website notes, “Idego grew out of a passion for coffee and the relationships built around it. We sought out the best coffees from the best roasteries in the country (and beyond).”

The pursuit of such high quality coffee naturally led Idego to begin roasting their own beans in 2018.

Now, three years later, the family behind Idego is moving to San Diego, and bringing their locally roasted, single origin coffee with them.

Owner Paul De Arras told What Now San Diego the new location at 13303 Poway Road in Poway will be a coffee shop and roastery: “the front half will be the coffee shop and all that fun stuff, and the back half will be the roastery. And we’re going to set it up so you can see into the roastery.” He added in an email to What Now San Diego, “The Poway location will offer espresso drinks, brewed coffee and pour overs, nitro and nitro lattes, an assortment of pastries, and our freshly roasted bagged coffees.”

Blacksburg Café, the company’s original location, will stay open as the owners make their move, and in the meantime will serve George Howell Coffee until Idego’s roastery is up and roasting at Poway Plaza. The goal is to have the new roastery open by the end of the year and to return to sourcing the Blacksburg Café home roasted beans. “We will offer whole sale once we start going out here,” De Arras added.

Opening day is anywhere from three to six months out, and will depend on equipment and contractors, so you’ll want to check back for the latest details.
