The board for Lake Cuyamaca have entrusted Tom Nickel, and Tyson and Kristina Blake, with the exciting role of transforming Lake Cuyamaca Restaurant and Convenience Store into a revitalized hub for the community. They’re up for the task, with 27 years of restaurant experience and deep ties within the craft beer community to back them up. We should expect a wealth of good beer and food options along Highway 79.

What Now San Diego spoke with Tyson Blake about the upcoming takeover. “The area is popular for boating, fishing, bird watching, camping, and we’re looking to add to the experience that already exists there,” says Blake. Plans for the Convenience Store include utilizing the refrigerated storage space for a curated beer and wine shop, and to pare down the offerings of specific camping needs.

As for the restaurant, Blake says, “We do pubs very well. It will be cozy, comfortable, playful, and ever changing.” Craft beer fans can expect somewhere around 10-12 beers on tap, with half pouring Nickel Beer Company and the other half supporting guest beers. On the restaurant side, Blake tells us, “You’ll find favorites from the restaurants we currently have like Pepe melts, bbq sandwiches, awesome salads, and seasonal offerings. We’ll be elevating and playing around with pub entrees.” Since the mountain roads see snow during the winter, they’re expecting that menus will also be dictated by the weather and accessibility to food distribution to the region.

The space is currently under construction and updates to the restaurant are expected to be finished just before Thanksgiving 2021. Follow along with construction and updates via Instagram.
