Franchisee Tony Nguyen tells What Now San Diego he’s signed on to open two locations of The Alley, focusing on mall operations. Nguyen says he decided to join The Alley because it would be a new brand to San Diego and since his focus was a shopping mall storefront, he targeted the biggest mall available to the region: Westfield UTC.

Nguyen stays busy operating Tofu House at SDSU and even dabbles in the beauty business with a nail salon in El Cajon. He shares, “When I decided to go into business, I chose a franchise because there’s less worry. The company sets you up with a lot of resources and I wanted to find something that’s not already in San Diego yet.”

A US Navy Veteran, Nguyen first earned a degree in Computer Science and later achieved a PhD in Leadership Studies. His goal is to take his real-world leadership skills from his franchise projects and mentor other veterans to find their own success in restaurant operations.

Specializing in milk and bubble teas, The Alley makes their signature brown sugar “Deerioca” (brown sugar boba pearls) in-house daily. Their proprietary boba is served warm and is best enjoyed once stirred nine times before drinking so as not to alter the temperature of the Deerioca too much.

The Alley’s signature drinks include the Matcha Brown Sugar Deerioca Milk, with house-made Matcha and Deerioca, plus your choice of milk. For something fresh and fruity, try their Snow Strawberry Lulu with sweetened fruit tea, topped with strawberries and cheese foam.

The Alley at Westfield UTC is currently under construction and is expected to open in July 2023. Get to know The Alley by following on Instagram
