The new restaurant will move into the second story of El Sueno, offering a Mexican Japanese fusion menu with tapas-style sushi and Japanese-inspired tacos, according to SanDiegoVille. This is the latest from co-owners Sal and Pietro Busalacchi and their partner Gustavo Rios, who opened El Sueno and the nearby Trattoria Don Pietro. When Tako Vibrant Sushi opens next month, the 1,200-square-foot dining space will feature a 14-seat bar, top-notch cocktails, the freshest ingredients available, and an unmatched atmosphere.

“We have decided to turn the upstairs space at El Sueno into its own sushi restaurant,” Pietro Busalacchi tells SanDiegoVille. “The sushi at El Sueno was so loved that we decided to take it to another level, literally and figuratively.”

This is an exciting move for the local restaurant owners, considering that San Diego Magazine recently awarded El Sueno Best Mexican Restaurant and Best New Restaurant. While the restaurant has seen incredible success since opening in June 2023, replacing La Pinata, sushi has been a standout dish at El Sueno. So much so that the father and son duo decided to open a new concept dedicated to fusion sushi. Tako Vibrant Sushi will be closed on Mondays and Wednesdays and open from 6 pm to 11 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays while opening an extra 30 minutes later on Fridays and Saturdays.
