Things are moving fast for Hillcrest Mexican Restaurant, Cocina De Barrio, headed by Chef Jose Flores. Plans are in place to take over traditional breakfast spot Swami’s at 3924 W Point Loma Blvd near Sports Arena. What Now San Diego spoke with Cocina De Barrio Marketing Director, Marcella Flores to confirm details about the exciting expansion.

Fans of the Hillcrest location, which opened in 2019, will be happy to find the same menu plus the addition of a daily Brunch. Monday thru Friday, Brunch will be served from 8am-3pm and Happy Hour from 3pm-5pm, with Dinner served daily from 3pm-10pm. Their second location is planned for an October opening. An exact date has yet to be set.

Their menu boasts Oaxacan-style Mexican dishes like Short Ribs en Mole Negro, a variety of plant-based dishes, and Brunch specialties like Chilaquiles Verde. The bar menu is just as impressive as their cuisine with Signature Craft Cocktails made with Mezcal, wines from Valle de Guadalupe, and the perfectly Instagrammable Popsicle Margarita that comes with a whole popsicle garnish.
