It’s certainly no news that the COVID-19 Pandemic has placed pressure on the restaurant industry. Be it staff-shortages or dining restrictions, restaurants have had to get creative in overcoming obstacles. In some cases, however, those obstacles have led to growth.

Opt out at anytime

Négociant Winery, North Park’s award-winning urban winery, is one example. Owner John Rinaldi confirmed with What Now San Diego that the winery has opted to move locations as a result of the pandemic. “Because of COVID we really needed more outdoor dining [space],” Rinaldi shared.

The result?

“We are moving to Hillcrest, to the old space that used to be Ad Libitum,” Rinaldi said. “It’s a mid-century modern building with a lot more outdoor space. It’s a bit more upscale, a little more posh.”

Négociant Winery first opened in 2015. It takes its name from the French word for a wine merchant: “through winemaking, blending, and aging, the négociant creates beautiful craft wines.” You can sample those craft wines through Négociant’s tasting room, which also serves up a menu of craft food.

“We’re hoping to be moved by October.” Rinaldi said. But you won’t have to miss out in the meantime. Négociant’s current location will remain open until the Saturday before the new spot opens. “The transition will be seamless,” Rinaldi added.

And, even better, the new location will give the winery enough kitchen space to add brunch to the menu. The wine offerings will remain the same.
