For the last 10 years, Blue Bridge Hospitality has served the Coronado community in the form of Leroy’s Kitchen & Lounge. This summer, that changed. But never fear, Leroy’s closed down to allow for something ‘fresh’ to take its place.

The Islander is inspired by beach towns off of the pacific coast and is focused on providing a fun dining and bar experience,” Aubrey Ferreira, Marketing Manager for Blue Bridge Hospitality, shared with What Now San Diego. It even sounds like The Islander will be a bit of a chameleon. The space aims to provide a family-friendly atmosphere in the morning and afternoon that will give way to a louder, boozier night-scene vibe in the evening.

“Our large menu will consist of a variety of beach food encompassing all flavors of the pacific coast. Prominently featuring dishes from SoCal, Mexico and Hawaii, but also influenced by Costa Rica, Fiji, and anywhere with a surf break,” Ferreira continued. The Islander’s kitchen will serve breakfast until 2PM, with a menu boasting signature pancake stacks and one-of-a-kind breakfast bowls.

The former Leroy’s space will transform into a ‘retro surf-inspired’ interior, with an open, breezy feel and bi-folding La Cantina doors to wed the indoor and outdoor areas.

Oh, and here’s the best bit: “Our bar has tripled in size to make plenty of room for those enjoying our Tiki-inspired cocktails,” wrote Ferreira. “You can expect to see surfboards, retro furniture, orange vinyl bar stools, outdoor teal chairs with dark woodwork, teal Bahama shutters, light Acia wood floors and huge Mahogany longboard bar top.”

An opening date for The Islander has yet to be determined, however it sounds like, once all the permitting is in order, the restaurant will aim for no later than September.
