Provecho! Coffee Co. is ready to put down roots in Barrio Logan after finding success as a mobile stand. Eater first reported the coffee roasters are in the process of setting up a permanent space at the Bread & Salt gallery.
Co-owner Gerardo Ledesma II tells What Now San Diego the coffee stand had received such a positive response from locals that it was time to give the two-year-old business a go at a brick-and-mortar location.
“The events were getting so busy and we were selling out so we thought it was about time we thought about opening a space,” shares Ledesma.
The name Provecho! was derived from the Spanish expression, “buen provecho,” which means to enjoy your food or beverage as stated before a meal. To Ledesma, the name and term signify love, passion, creating, and cultivating a positive experience, which is the root of the business.
Behind the scenes, Ledesma brings along 10+ years of experience working in specialty coffee while wife and co-owner Karem Alcántar is the creative director behind Provecho’s brand image.
Provecho! specializes in single-origin coffees carefully sourced from various regions in Mexico and Columbia. “We source directly from Chiapas, Veracruz, Oaxaca, directly from women-owned farms in Mexico,” explains Ledesma. “Much of our coffee is exclusively sold to Provecho! I’m proud to say that. I’m really happy to have coffees that no one else has in their cafes here in San Diego.”
Events will continue as Provecho! heads into construction on its new home, which will eventually incorporate a food menu and feature outdoor seating. The Barrio Logan collaborative includes an art gallery, event space, Mujeres Brew House, and another food pop-up Barra Cruda who will also turn the site into a permanent home.
