The project is led by La Jolla locals Zoe and Eric Kleinbub, alongside Jeffrey Tascarella and Christopher Lowder of Lowder-Tascarella Hospitality.

Paradisaea will feature a menu of contemporary California cuisine led by Culinary Director Mark Welker and a cocktail program designed by Beverage Director Dannika Underhill.

We can look forward to shareable plates, local seafood entrees, handmade pasta dishes, a signature hamburger, plus vegetarian options and creative desserts. Their cocktail menu is said to take inspiration from the San Diego beach communities, found alongside a sommelier-approved wine collection.

“From the vibrant flavors to the welcoming design, we want Paradisaea to serve as a hub for the local community – a place to come together and enjoy dinner, cocktails, and the company of friends and family in an inspired atmosphere,” the Kleinbubs explain in a press release.

Paradisaea will debut alongside its sister business Dodo Bird Donuts, an all-day cafe serving Dark Horse Coffee with pastries and breakfast sandwiches. Adding to the class and style of the new space, Tropical Punch is the retail space within the Piano building which will highlight emerging brands in home, beauty, and fashion curated by Eric and Zoe Kleinbub.

Restaurant ownership must pass all plans through the Bird Rock Community Council, which most recently relayed their feedback on outdoor dining for the restaurant according to reports by La Jolla Light. The Kleinbubs are working with B&R Architects and Georgis & Mirgorodsky for architectural and interior design expertise, bringing to life their tropical inspiration that compliments their planned cuisine and cocktails.

The restaurant has thus far respected the original structure at their 4,500 square feet of space at the revered building but are asking local residents permission to reconfigure current landscaping to work in outdoor dining space on the corner of La Jolla Boulevard and Bird Rock Avenue. The Kleinbubs are expected to receive final word on the matter of outdoor dining very soon.

Paradisaea and Dodo Bird Donuts are expected to debut in Summer 2022. Stay tuned for more information by following Paradisaea and Dodo Bird Donuts on Instagram.
