Owner Neda Faraji tells What Now San Diego her journey learning about bone broth started when she was pregnant and the doctor recommended she consume the nutrient-rich broth. Her research began in the grocery store, not finding an ideal product. “I found some on an un-refrigerated shelf and had little other products to compare it to,” explains Faraji. 

Upon doing more searching and sampling, Faraji found many bone broths on the market contain high levels of salt and unsavory materials.

Added salt can have an adverse effect on the healthy holistic benefits associated with the product. With it’s natural anti-inflammatory properties, it can be used as an immunity booster and even for pre or post-workout recovery. Faraji herself has consumed bone broth for post-surgery recovery and shares tips for cooking with Ossum Bone Broth via social media. 

Part of the journey in building Ossum Bone Broth has been education and mindful consumption. “There’s a lot of people who either know exactly what it is or have never heard of it,” shares Faraji. At its base, bone broth consists of animal bones simmered for 18-24 hours. Ossum Bone Broth uses simple ingredients with deep research done by Faraji to confirm the source of the bones in order to produce the purest broth. 

Research goes soil-deep in sourcing the bones, looking into the animal’s surroundings and diet which contribute to the flavor and quality of the eventual broth. Faraji sources her materials through farmer’s who are ethically raising their animals in open, outdoor spaces. 

Ossum Bone Broth has a 4-5 day shelf life, needs to remain refrigerated, and will last 3 months frozen. You can learn more by visiting the Website.
