Oakberry Acai, the healthy fast food concept in more than 35 countries, is preparing to expand massively in San Diego County.
Previously, What Now San Diego reported that the company had opened a handful of potential locations in the area, but the company has only one site in Pacific Beach. Now, franchise owner JP Bianchini tells What Now San Diego he plans to open more. Starting in January 2025, he plans to open an Oakberry Acai in Hillcrest. Then, he will focus on expanding the brand into Carlsbad at Plaza Paseo Real, Oceanside at S Coast Highway, and Coronado in the second quarter of 2025.
This is just the beginning for Oakberry, as the company has five more development locations in Los Angeles and another in Orange County, all expected to open sometime next year. The expansion comes after Oakberry successfully raised $67 million through a Series C funding round at the beginning of the year. This funding led the company to have big expectations for this year, hoping to close out with over $200 million in revenue and nearly 1,000 stores globally.
“We designed OAKBERRY to be a global brand with a strong footprint in the United States, and the investment from BTG Pactual brings not only a financial partner but also a strategic partner with a keen focus on reinforcing our expansion,” Georgios Frangulis, CEO and Co-Founder of OAKBERRY, said in a press release. “The strategy to invest in corporate stores in high-demand markets, like the United States, represents an excellent opportunity for capital allocation while, at the same time, establishing our brand in these regions.”
