Brazilian company, Oakberry, will soon bring their unique Açaí bowls and Smoothies to San Diego. Their first location is planned for Westfield UTC in La Jolla, and is part of a greater plan to bring 100 locations to California in the next five years.
Born in São Paulo, Brazil five years ago, their açaí bowls quickly grew in popularity. They now operate 450 stores in over 20 countries. The brand has set their sights on Arizona, Florida, New York, and California for advanced expansion.
What Now San Diego spoke with JP Bianchini and Rafael Wellisch, two Oakberry Owners leading the Franchise expansion in California. Although new to the Golden State, consumers are already loving the product.
Oakberry serves a proprietary blend of açaí, reinventing the consumer experience by offering unlimited toppings and customizable options. “We cater to everyone from kids to sports enthusiasts. It’s a great option for someone working who needs a quick and healthy meal, pre or post workout, or a healthy dessert,” explains Bianchini.
Beyond their store expansion, Oakberry supports athletes and active lifestyles with regular sponsorship of tennis tournaments like the Miami Open, Formula 1 Racing events, and the Australian and Brazilian legs of the World Surf League.
New locations have already opened in Santa Barbara and Playa Vista and will see a quick expansion throughout Los Angeles and Orange County. According to Bianchini, San Diego can expect more locations after the La Jolla debut. “We consider San Diego a major market for us. La Jolla is the first location but we’re already searching for additional locations on the coast,” says Bianchini.
