“True Texas BBQ, by a true Texan” is what you’ll get when you partake in the culinary offerings of Chris and Adrian Sweat. Their catering company, Oak and Anchor BBQ, has spent the last few months of the pandemic collaborating with Chula Vista Brewery at 294 3rd Ave. in Chula Vista. According to the company’s Instagram page, BBQ has been available at the brewery every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday starting at 3PM, until they sell out.

Intel from a recent permit filing suggests, though, this may be about to change. Oak and Anchor BBQ filed for a permit for 1319 Broadway in El Cajon, which indicates the company has plans to go brick-and-mortar.

What is ‘True Texas BBQ?’ To answer that question, Oak and Anchor says, “Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.”

The catering company smokes its own brisket, wings, ribs, and bourbon glazed pork belly, among other things. It appears their offerings rotate depending on the day of the week. Daily, Oak and Anchor serves up their loaded baked potato, known around town as ‘Hogzilla,” which consists of a potato with pulled pork and ribs, sour cream, cheese, and green onions. Wednesday is Wing day, and brisket is available Fridays. Texas baked beans, potato salad, and mac & cheese are available sides.

We were unable to contact the owners at the time of publication, so our info on the opening timeline is limited. We can safely say, the new BBQ joint will drop anchor close to the corner of Broadway and N. 2nd Street in El Cajon. You’ll want to follow Oak and Anchor’s social media for more information.
