SanDiegoVille first reported the location was originally planned for takeover by The Sandbox Pizza & Wings from Pacific Beach. After plans fell through, the team behind Rockin’ Baja Lobster Coastal Cantina made a play for the Harbor-front restaurant.

Now the space will make way for Gaslamp Coastal Bar & Grill, a sister restaurant to Rockin’ Baja with a similar menu of Mexican seafood dishes and lively atmosphere.

According to a recent permit filing for the restaurant, the project was called Gaslamp Trolley Cantina & Grill. Owner Rick DiRienzo could not be reached for comment on the new project to confirm the name and additional details.

Reports say the new restaurant is expected to open in Late 2022. For now, visit the Rockin’ Baja Website for more information on their locations.
