Rhiana Glor has been perfecting her grain-free pastries for over a decade, testing out new recipes and gaining a loyal gluten-free following across the county. After establishing two cafes in Encinitas, Glor has decided to branch out to a new bakery in Del Mar’s Flower Hill Promenade, under the Nectarine Grove brand.

Opt out at anytime

When Glor first opened Healthy Creations 13 years ago, the menu wasn’t entirely gluten-free. However, after hearing the innumerable customer requests for gluten-free products, she decided to go all in.

“I found that I could make gluten-free things and people couldn’t tell the difference,” Glor told What Now San Diego. “I figured that if we had baked goods that tasted just as good as regular, then we could have a safe space for people with celiac disease or any kind of dietary restriction.”

In 2018, she opened the first Nectarine Grove, which offers locally-sourced burgers, sandwiches, pizza and even gluten-free beer from Burgeon and Ground Breaker Brewing. By opting out of gluten entirely, Glor’s gluten-intolerant customers can order any item on the menu without having to worry about cross-contact.

With the demand for gluten-free products higher than ever, Nectarine Grove is starting to outgrow its modest bakery space at 948 N Coast Hwy in Encinitas. The move to Del Mar’s Flower Hill Promenade will allow the brand to expand its range of products and meet that healthy pastry demand. This coming May, customers can anticipate gluten-free hand pies (small, stuffed puff pastries), croissants, sourdough bread and specialty coffee roasted by Cafe Virtuoso.

Flower Hill is home to several other health-conscious establishments, including Whole Foods and Flower Child. The Nectarine Grove bakery will find its home in the 1,360 square feet space that most recently held Nothing Bundt Cakes.
