The Bankers Hill building was developed by Greystar in partnership with the land owner and neighbors, St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral. The church shared in a blog post, “Nutmeg & Olive, LLC, the owner of our space in 525 Olive, is pleased to announce that after careful negotiations we have entered into a lease agreement with MRKT SPACE, a new line of upmarket food and drink establishments, to build out and occupy the commercial space on the first floor west of 525 Olive. As you may know, the commercial space is an unfinished shell, and a great deal of work must be done before any business can be conducted there.”

The first MRKT Space opened in Australia in 2020. Owners Matt Power and Alex Brinis successfully introduced the business in Encinitas in 2021, followed by another location in La Jolla in 2022. Another spot in Rancho Santa Fe, complete with a rooftop deck, is expected to open later in 2023 according to Coast News.

A contemporary take on a convenience store, MRKT SPACE locations highlight international brands along with locally crafted and artisan-made products like Hommage Bakehouse bread and A Mano Cheese. Part cafe, bottle shop, grocery store, and gift shop, its locations are both a place for the community to gather and a one-stop shop for foodies.

Design plans are reportedly underway on the empty unit at 525 Olive, which is expected to open in Early 2024. Learn more about MRKT SPACE at their Website and follow on Instagram for updates.
