He expects to open the 1,400-square-foot dine-in-focused restaurant by early summer.

“We’re having a grand opening on May 7,” Dela Cruz said. “It will be our second San Diego location. We opened our first location in The Colony in West L.A. that was mainly focused on delivery. It became a big success and not too long after that we started opening more locations.”

Main Chick Hot Chicken serves a handful of chicken tender and chicken sandwich combos and customers can choose between naked, mild, medium, spicy, and supreme levels.

Dela Cruz was especially proud of the restaurant’s dark meat chicken sandwich.

“It’s pretty unique. I don’t know anywhere else that serves it,” he said.

Main Chick’s hot chicken comes with seasoned crinkle-cut fries.

“We first opened in San Diego last November,” Dela Cruz said. “We were such a big success that we are already looking to expand in the area. We’re going to open our second location first but are already looking at a third location.”

He said he’s currently in the process of getting a liquor license for the new joint.
